Laboratory Access Policy

Computing resources are provided to currently enrolled students, faculty and staff at Francis Marion University as well as active alumni members. Access to the laboratory requires a valid University ID card which must be presented at the I/O window each time you enter the laboratory. It will be retained by student operator until you are finished with your computing session. Only two Alumni are allowed in the lab at any given time and must present a current Alumni card.


Classroom Access Policy

Students should only be in the classrooms during scheduled classes/workshops with authorized instructors.

Computer Center Rules

DISK WRITE RIGHTS: The assignment of user ID's for the Alpha1 grants you limited privileges to write to it's hard drives. No Privileges are granted to write to any other hard drive available in the Computer Center.

PIRACY: The software and documents available are copyrighted products. They may NOT be reproduced, in part or in whole, for any purpose.

VIRUSES: Please use the option from the menu to scan your diskette for viruses. You never know when one may be written to your media so you should do this often. If a virus is detected, contact a staff member for repair.

SESSIONS: Laboratory computing sessions are limited to 90 minutes. If there are people waiting after your 90 minutes has expired, you will be asked to relinquish your computer to the next user.

CLIMATE: The laboratory operates with an atmosphere similar to library. No smoking, food, or drink is allowed. While talking and moving about is fine, the rights of others must be respected. Noise and other distractive behavior will not be tolerated.

DISKETTES: In order to use the PC's you must have your own 3½inch diskette. These are sold in the University Store. The Computer Center does not sell or loan them.

WORKSTATIONS: You should do your computing at the workstation assigned to you in the laboratory. If you need to move to another, please inform the student operator at the I/O window so that you may be reassigned.

TELEPHONE: The telephone at the I/O window is for business use. The student operator will dial the phone for you if you need to talk with your instructor. No long distance calls are allowed. For personal calls, please use the pay phone in the hallway.
