WEB PUBLISHING GUIDELINES

General Guidelines

These apply to all web pages developed on University computers or connected to University data networks.

You must abide by University policies, local, state and federal laws.

The page may not be used for commercial purposes. (This does not prohibit publishing a resume or vita.)

Personal information may not be used without expressed permission of the individual.

A name and E-mail address of the individual responsible for the page should appear on every page.

The date of last update or revision should appear on every page.

Be aware all web users do not have the same capabilities. You may want to consider limited use of graphics or other special features. Some users may not be able to display all the colors of your graphics because of hardware considerations. It may be a good idea to view your web page from several different browsers.

Remember that your web page has the domain name of fmarion.edu and reflects to others Francis Marion University. Please try to use discretion in whatever you publish and abide by all University policies concerning information technology. Special attention should be given by Web developers to the policy on Acceptable Uses of the Internet at Francis Marion University (http://www.fmarion.edu/academic/acs/policy/internet.htm).

Guidelines to be linked from the official FMU page.

In order for a personal, departmental or student organization page to have a link to it from the official FMU page established and maintained, these additional guidelines must be followed.

For any page to be linked from the official FMU page, the page must . . .

• link back to the FMU official page http://www.fmarion.edu from the your front page and
• use a meaningful html <title> which displays on the browser.

Departmental Pages must . . .

• have departmental head or supervisor approval and
• display the name of the department on the departmental front page.

Student Organization Pages must . . .

• be an officially chartered organization on file with the Student Affairs office,
• be approved by their faculty advisor who signs for their web and email account, and
• display the name of the organization on the organization's front page.
