![]() Swamp Fox exists to help Pee Dee teachers become better writers and teachers of writing. We are the Swamp Fox Writing Project at Francis Marion University, a local site of The National Writing Project (a program dedicated to improving writing in America). Our resources and affiliations are not limited to teachers; we network with the South Carolina International Reading Association (SCIRA), the South Carolina Council of Teachers of English (SCCTE), and the Writing Improvement Network (WIN) to promote improved reading and writing in our students. The collaborative efforts of local site leaders and the NWP provide grants for eligible teachers to attend the Summer Institute as Writing Fellows. Participation in the Institute offers an opportunity to improve one’s personal writing and to develop new skills to teach writing in addition to earning graduate credits. Our Advanced Institute equips teachers to become Teacher Consultants, prepared to teach others how to teach writing. The Swamp Fox Writing Project is a gateway to many opportunities, including the NWP Professional Writing Retreat, which often leads to publication and access to resources for professional development in technology.
