Professional Development Goals

Professional Development is one of the three critical components of the work of Swamp Fox Writing Project.  While the Summer Institute is the bedrock of our site, and the continuity events we sponsor are critical to maintaining the collegial relationships that we’ve built over time, the professional development our site provides is an integral part to our work because it allows us to share our philosophy of writing and writing instruction with larger audiences and have a broader impact on instruction.

As a writing project site, we provide professional development that is…

• Tailored to the needs of individual districts, schools, and teachers—where teachers guide the direction of their own professional development.
• Interactive—where teachers are reading, writing, and talking with one another.
• Interdisciplinary—where teachers from all grade levels and subject areas can explore their role as teachers of writing.
• Sustained—where we develop a learning community with teachers and administrators over time.
