Internships

Internship programs provide meaningful introductions to career options in professionally related work experiences in business, industry, government, or service agencies. Internships are offered by individual departments to allow students to gain practical work experience in a particular field while working on a degree. This work experience is usually unpaid and may offer academic credit if there is appropriate faculty supervision. Students generally work between eight and 12 hours a week while also taking other classes. Rules of eligibility and lists of companies offering internships can be obtained from departmental offices or the Office of Career Development. Some departments require internships as part of the curriculum.

I am a marketing major and decided to do an internship because I felt the experience I would gain from having one would set me apart from other graduates. I choose to work at Trinity Healthcare Staffing Group because I heard it was a great company and the internship description, creating advertisements and brochures, fit my interests. The internship was challenging and allowed me the opportunity to apply the knowledge I gained in my marketing courses. It was an experience I enjoyed because I was able to meet many people and learn from them all. I would recommend that all students approaching graduation consider an internship to better prepare themselves for the future.
