What is (ResNet) the Residential Network?
ResNet consists of the physical cabling and network equipment, the
Clean Access system and other internet services, and the support and
education assistance provided to all students living on campus. ResNet
makes it possible for residential students to connect their personal
computers directly to the campus network which links their PC to University
computing resources and the World Wide Web.
Where is ResNet?
One ResNet port or data jack is provided for each student in their dorm
or apartment within all residence halls of Francis Marion University.
The Academic Computer Center also provides one-on-one assistance. The
rest is hidden away in walls, wiring closets and secured system rooms.
What Does ResNet Offer?
Ethernet Internet Service 24 Hours A Day
With ResNet you can connect directly (no dial-up) to all University
resources and those on the World Wide Web, twenty-four hours of the
day, seven days a week. This network employs Ethernet technology offering
higher speed and better through put than traditional modem service.
Instant Access to Resources at Francis Marion University
and the World Wide Web.
ResNet enables you to harness the power and convenience
of your PC to the information resources available on the University's
network and the global Internet. Francis Marion University offers University
resources such as on-line registration, on-line payment services and
University email. University educational resources include Rogers
Library and Cauthen
Media Center , on-line resources and a range of educational web
pages produced by many academic departments of the institution. ResNet
gives you full access to the World Wide Web and many of its graphic
and multimedia elements.
On-Site Network User Support
ResNet provides you with network technical support, through the phone,
clinic appointments, a web site, and email. Students may contact the
ACS Helpdesk at extension 1111 to receive phone support. Their request
may then need to be routed to ResNet staff for further assistance. Support
clinics are offered Monday and Thursday, and more frequently at the
beginning of term, allowing residents to bring their computers to the
lab where they will receive one-on-one assistance in getting their computer
successfully communicating on the network. This website provides help
documentation, a FAQ section and contact information (E-Mail: helpdesk@fmarion.edu)
to help residents get the support they need.
