Cisco Clean Access – Authentication

Cisco Clean Access is used to authenticate users and check your computer’s compliance to policy before granting you access to either the residential or wireless network.
In campus residential rooms, physically connect your computer to your room’s data jack using a patch (cat 5) cable. In wireless coverage areas, connect to the “fmu_users” wireless network.

Step 1. User authentication
Web login
Open your web browser and attempt to go to a website. You should be redirected to an authentication page which appears below. You are required to enter a username and password. Key in “resnet” or “wireless” as the Username and “fmu” as the Password, typing in lowercase.

Clean Access Agent
If you have a computer with a Microsoft Windows operating system you will be directed to download the clean access agent onto your computer.

Follow the install wizard instructions.

Once Clean Access is installed, another login window will appear. This login window will be the only one presented to you from now on.

Note: If you don't see the popup screen to sign on to the network, please check your firewall settings. You need to allow Cisco Clean Access Agent (port 8905) through your firewall.

Step 2. Check Compliance

After you have logged into the clean access system the following checks will be performed. (You may have to reboot your machine a few times throughout this process.)
The three things checked are
· Currency of Windows Updates
· Installation of current and supported Antivirus Software (Grisoft’s AVG 7.5, a free product; Symantec's Norton Antivirus; Trend Micro's PC-Cillin; or McAfee’s Virus Scan.)
· Currency of Antivirus signatures

If you are in compliance (no vulnerabilities determined) you will be on the network.

Step 3. Remedying the problem

However, if you are not in compliance, the screen above will appear placing you in temporary access. Use the “continue” button to begin to see what is causing the problem. If you don’t have all your Windows updates, please click on the link provided to go to the Microsoft Windows update site. To get your Windows updates you must use Internet Explorer as your default browser. If you use another browser, copy the URL into Internet Explorer. It is recommend that you turn on your automatic updates to make sure that you computer is always protected. The following site might be helpful www.microsoft.com/security/protect/default.asp

If you don’t have a supported antivirus product installed, you will need to click next. Follow the instructions for your supported antivirus product that you purchased. Supported antivirus products are Grisoft’s AVG 7.5, a free product; Symantec's Norton Antivirus; Trend Micro's PC-Cillin; or McAfee’s Virus Scan.

If your antivirus signatures are not current, you will need to click next and update them. If this does not work, manually update your signature files by going through your antivirus icon on your task bar. We recommend that you update your signature files daily due to how quickly new viruses are created.

Step 4. Removing the Clean Access Agent

The Clean Access Agent is required of all Windows computers in campus residential halls or to fully access the wireless network. However, if you move off-campus and no longer need to connect your computer to ResNet or the wireless network, you should remove the Clean Access Agent. To do so, go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs. Select Clean Access Agent and click Remove.
