How Do I Find Out My Ethernet Address?

You will need to know your Ethernet address when you request the network port in your residence room to be activated. Each manufacturer assigns a unique Ethernet address you're your NIC (network interface card).

First you can look at the box that your card came in; it may show your address. Before you place the NIC in your machine, you can look at the card itself to find the Ethernet address.

If the card is already installed, you can try running software to help you discover your Ethernet address.

Windows 2000/XP Home

1. Click on the start button .

2. Select run on the menu, a run option will open with a field to type a command.

3. Type cmd in this field, a DOS screen will open.

4. In the DOS screen at the C:\> prompt type the command ipconfig/all , the information shown below will be displayed.

5. The field containing the ethernet address for your machine is labeled Physical Address the ethernet address will consist of 12 characters, which is a combination of numbers and letters.

Macintosh

Your Mac must be using Open transport and have AppleTalk and TCP/IP control panels. To find your hardware address follow these instructions:

1. From the Apple Menu - Choose Control Panels. Scroll down to TCP/IP. Open this panel.

2. From the file menu - choose "Get Info"

3. Your Hardware Address (Ethernet address) is listed in this window
